Frequently Asked Questions

When does Central Maine Power (CMP) have to be involved in a project?

CMP has to be involved any time we need to disconnect power at the pole. This includes service upgrades, meter pulls, and generally anything that has to do with the electrical components located on the outside of your house. They have certain rules that we need to follow and may dictate how we proceed with a project. A service upgrade is the most common reason to involve CMP (additional information about service upgrades coming soon).

What is the process of involving CMP?

Our office will schedule our work on a day when CMP can come shut off power. CMP will ask us a number of questions regarding the work we intend to do. They will then do a “tag & locate” where they come to your property and/or pole and make sure everything we told them is accurate. If something is amiss we may have to reevaluate our plan.

Does each town have the same CMP schedule?

Nope! Each town we work in has a different CMP schedule. We may be limited to Wednesdays in one town and Monday/Fridays in another. This can make scheduling difficult, please be prepared. All CMP appointments are weather permitting, and they always err on the side of caution.

What is a service upgrade?

A service upgrade increases the amount of electricity available to your home from Central Maine Power (CMP). A common reason for service upgrades is the installation of heat pumps.
